I’m interested to see how the league handles this situation. In the grand scheme of things, one could say that compared to killing a guy while drunk and behind the wheel (a la stallworth), this isn’t really that bad. But I would really hope that bettman’s sorry @$$ wouldn’t just let him off with a little slap on the wrist. I’ve always viewed hockey players as more stand-up guys than any player in any other sport. I can only hope that the commissioner feels the same way.

Totally agree with you Jake; it will be interesting to see it play out. I just hope it all comes clean in the wash and Kane and the NHL don’t make this a hush-hush Chicago style situation where they ask and answer the question: “If a cabbie gets punched in Buffalo and no one convicts the puncher, did the cabbie still get punched?”

I’m having a bit of a hard time with the Kane “issue” basically the entire thing is in the hands of the grand jury and a pair of tough lawyers. I lived in Buffalo for 20 years and believe me South Buffalo politics are as tough as Chicago’s. The bill or no bill should be announced tomorrow or Thursday according to the Buffalo papers. How this will progress depends on the grand jury’s decision.

I would hate to see a gifted young man’s career derailed at the age of 20 as serious as the charges might be. At the very least this should be a wake up call for the league and how it handles gifted young players.

Thanks for the insights into the Buffalo political scene. My own thoughts are that the grand jury is going to indict him and then they’ll plea bargain down. It would be a shame to ruin the kid’s career. Hopefully this is a wakeup call to the league, Kane and the Hawks. Having a young team is tough and without veteran leadership egos can get inflated.

All the best!!
